The Streak Comes to an End

April 11-17, 2011

Being worn out from hockey and not sleeping much from Saturday to Sunday, I slept in again Monday before getting up to make some food and heading to work for my weekly long day kick off. Work went by as painlessly as it could, and when it was all over it was straight home for me to do some laundry, make some food, then get to bed.
With an abundance of food already made, Tuesday morning was a very relaxing one. I got up with nothing pressing to do but get ready for work, then hit the gym. My workout was great, and really helped me kick off the day, before heading to my second busiest day of the week. Work went by just fine, and at the end of the day with some time to kill, I did some blogging and looked up protein supplements with Jean and John. After work, I went back to the gym for another work out before heading home to get some reading done, and get some sleep.
Wednesday morning came around and as usual I got up and got ready to go see Wes in the hospital. His aunt and uncle had flown in for the week, so we got to meet, and talk about how he has been improving and about his upcoming surgery to get his piece of skull back in. After the hospital, I headed to the closest Costco to Bongcheon to check out prices for the fundraiser for Wes I had proposed to the league. Everyone in the league was behind the idea 100%, so I had let Emily, Alex, and Louise in on the idea, but we were waiting to get it all finalized before we let Wes' family in on the plan. Costco was just what I needed to remind me of all the things I missed eating from back home, and wonder why I never got a membership. After Costco I was running late, so went straight to work, picking up some food on the way. I was an hour late, but luckily nobody really monitors what we do, so it was no big deal. I slid in and quickly ate my food before my first class at 4. When work was over, I headed to the gym to get my workout in, and check my progress with the scales. I was holding at 74kg, but have high hopes of it jumping as my body gets used to the extra trips to the gym. After the gym, I went home to eat and watch some TV before going to bed around 2am.
Thursday morning I got up and made some food before gong to the gym to get my first workout of the day underway. While at the gym, I talked with SeonWon about finally going to have some food at his family's cafe in Isu on Saturday when I was done visiting Wes, but told him I would text him to let him know for sure. After the gym I went to work, and typed up some things to give Wes' friends an idea about the fundraiser that was in the works. When work was finished, it was back to the gym. No rest for the wicked, they say. And after that, home to bed.
Friday was a lot like Thursday, except after working out, I went to meet John at Podo Mall for the beer and large fries set, and shoot the breeze before work. After our fries, we rode our bikes to school, but I made a quick stop at the bike shop to get then to look at an oil leak on my bike. It had been leaking ever since Gavin owned it, but had gotten to the point where something needed to be done. Turns out it was an easy fix, and all the mechanic had to do was put in a new washer where the old one had warn out, and *poof* good as new. Happy with the success of the day, I went to work to finish up the week with a smile. After work, it was off to the gym again for one last workout before the tragedy that is the weekend came, and brought with it a bucket of anti-motivation. After the gym, I went home and watch some TV before falling asleep early enough so I could get up to go see Wes in the morning.
Saturday morning I got up around 9am and got ready to head to the hospital to see Wes, and to tell his family about the fundraiser. Luckily Emily also showed up, so I was able to talk to her as well, before we let everyone know. His family was thrilled that we had decided to do it for them, and thanked us for being so supportive. After the hospital, I went to Isu to have lunch at SeonWon's family cafe, where I met his older sister and one of his friends, and had some great pizza and conversation. After lunch, I went to Yeouido to meet with Frank and his friend, Brady and SoHyun, and eventually Jen and Casey to check out the Cherry Blossom Festival. It was super busy, and I was a couple hours later than we had originally thought about meeting, but it seemed like everybody was trickling in so we just came together as people showed up. After walking through the crowds for a couple hours, we stopped at a 7/11 to get a drink and wait out the crowds trying to get out of there at the end of the day. For dinner we decided to take the bus over to Yeongdeungpo and eat at a lamb place in Jen's neighbourhood. It was a good meal, but not as good as Aladdin's Lamb in Sincheon, and coupled with the terrible bus ride and how hungry we were, it was definitely no knock out but well needed. After the lamb, we headed to a small bar for a couple beers, and then we all took the subway home around 11. I thought I would go straight home, but just before I got to Bongcheon, John called me and asked me if I wanted to have a beer and some chicken with him. We met at the station, then went to a chicken place near his house, and put in our order. While we were eating there were two couples sitting on the far side of the restaurant, and one of the guys was becoming drunk and irate. After a while, everyone in the restaurant was aware of him, and when he finally picked up and threw a chair, John ran over to grab him and drag him outside. I opened the door for them to go out, then went outside to make sure the drunkard didn't do anything to make things worse. His friend, who was also drunk, came out angry at John for interfering, but the owner and another Korean were able to calm him down, and eventually he apologized for his friends behaviour. John and I went back inside to finish our chicken and beer, and when we were finished and about to leave, the owner showed us his tae-kwon-do card that said he was a 6th Dan black belt. We laughed knowing that he probably could have handled things himself, and then went home to get some sleep.
Luckily I didn't have to play until 4 on Sunday, so I had some time to get up and work the cobwebs out. I talked to Ash on Facebook for a bit, then got my things together and went to watch some of John's hockey game. I got to the rink around 1, so I missed his first game, but caught the second. After that I hung out doing some goal judging, and soaking up the sun before my games. Unfortunately, our teams 6 game winning streak came to an end, due to our entire team playing poorly, with a loss in our first game against the Big Rock Black Ambers 3-1, but we redeemed ourselves in the second game with a 4-1 victory. After our games, I stuck around with Alex and Louise for a bit, but the day had turned cold, and by 7 I was ready to get out of the cold and wind. I helped do a quick clean up, and then left to get back to Bongcheon to get some groceries and go home. I finished the night off with my weekly call home, then went to bed, putting an end to another week.
